Hardcover. Fourth edition. Tall 8vo., orig. green cloth, xix, 540pp. With illustrations. A fine, bright copy. This work details a 19 month collecting expedition to Brazil, begun in the spring of 1865 for the purpose of collecting specimens for Agassiz's natural history museum at Harvard. It is one of the most famous scientific expeditions to the Amazon and, interestingly, most of it was written by Mrs. Agassiz. Kept in the form of a journal it is interesting reading, graphic in its descriptions. (Smith A17).
