Wear to dj. forty reproductions in photogravure of the artist's principal works, with a critical study by F. Schmidt Degener . and notes on the illustrations by Dr. H.E. van Gelder . Translated by G.J. Renier. Each plate accompanied by guard sheet with descriptive letterpress. Jan Havickszoon Steen (c. 1626 1679) was a Dutch genre painter of the 17th century. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. Illustrated by Jan Steen (illustrator). First Edition. Original Brick coloured cloth boards with bright gilt titling on the spine, and black titling to the front. Slight edgewear/rubbing/bumping to the Head/Tail of the spine and a little light rubbing to the corners but overall the boards are VG/Near Fine. A little light foxing to the page fore-edges. Pink to the Top edge. In the original publisher's plain lettered dustjacket. The dustjacket is not price clipped, but has some repaired closed tears and chipping with a little loss. The d/j is about 98% complete however and only has a little loss to the top of the spine. This book is from the collection of the late Artist Arthur Giardelli and he has written his name and location in ink on the top of the front pastedown! . Some light foxing in the book but overall negligible. Internally NO other Inscriptions or Marks. (vi) + 82 Text pages + 40 unpaginated tissue guarded, captioned monochrome photogravures. Translated by G. J. Renier. Overall this is a Very Clean, Tight and Bright Near 'Fine' copy. Beautifully produced book - and the title says it all.
