No Binding. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. For many years, a pair of Doris Humphrey solo dances languished, preserved on a an amateur silent film, from a private performance. Ernestine Stodelle (1925-2008), who danced in the Humphrey and Limon Companies, analyzed the dances and located the music Doris Humphrey had used: two piano pieces by Dane Rudhyar (1895-1985), who had been a close collaborator with Ms. Humphrey in the late 1920s. Here is Ms. Stodelle's reconstruction, its excellent performance by Nina Watt preceded on the tape by Ms. Stodelle's discussion of the works and her coaching/rehearsing with Ms. Watt. VHS-NTSC; 63 minutes, color. Produced by videographer Amy Reusch in collaboration with The Doris Humphrey Society. CONDITION: Both the VHS tape (which plays perfectly) and plastic shell-case are in superb condition, though there is a tiny missing corner on the outer storage case. This outstanding item is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag.

Some foxing and soiling on the rappers, very good or a little better; internally fine. Inscribed by both Stodelle and Morgan: "For Matha Hill - with love - Barbara and Ernestine." The entire inscription in Morgan's hand except for "and Ernestine". In addition to writing Martha Graham's biography, Stodelle was a pioneering modern dancer who performed with Doris Humphrey and José Limón, a dancing teacher, a professor of dance criticism at NYU, and a dance critic for a number of publications. Unbound. Condition: Very Good. Manuscript. Mixed ribbon, carbon, handwritten, and/or mechanically reproduced leaves. Heavily corrected in both type and by hand. Housed in two cardboard typewriter paper boxes (each with an affixed label): one box contains the title leaf and chapters 1-12 in chronological order (about 325 sheets); the other box contains additional annotated versions of multiple chapters (with extra sheets, insertions, etc.), clipped or stapled together (about 350 sheets). Included is a cover letter from an editor at "Dance Horizons" returning the manuscript to Stodelle, and additional random correspondence laid in. Interestingly, many of the pages of the manuscript are typed on the versos of other correspondence or memos from the Ernestine Stodelle Dance Company, the American Ballet Theater, and other dance studios. The boxes are well-worn, the pages, other than showing considerable revision, are generally very good or better. The book was published in 1984 by Schrimer Books/Macmillan. In addition to writing Graham's biography, Stodelle was a pioneering modern dancer who performed with Doris Humphrey and José Limón, a dancing teacher, a professor of dance criticism at NYU, and a dance critic for a number of publications. See her 2008 obituary in the *New York Times*.
