"The need to adopt positive measures to protect Kingston's historic, architectural heritage has long been recognized. In response to representations by the City and concerned citizen groups, the Province of Ontario in 1970 enacted 'An Act Respecting the City of Kingston' giving the City authority to pass by-laws designating buildings or structures of historic or architectural value or interest. This first volume contains a selection of approximately 30 buildings (public, commercial, residential) selected for their outstanding architectural and historic interest and because information about them is reasonably complete."
