A limited edition work, of which two hundred and ten copies were printed, this copy is numbered one-hundred and twenty-nine, with seven etchings in duplicate. The memoir of Count Carlo Gozzi, a noted Italian playwright, as well as being a champion of Commedia dell'arte, an early form of professional theatre, which he was interested in saving. Gozzi was known for his works 'L'amore Delle tre Melarance', 'Turandot', and 'La Donna Serpente'. Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, seven colour plates, and one monochrome plate. Volume II illustrated with four colour plates, and five monochrome plates. Collated, complete. Translated by John Addington Symonds, an English poet, who was well known for his work on the Renaissance. Illustrated by Adolphe Lalauze, Maurice Sand, and A. Manceau. In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A couple of light marks to the boards and spines. A couple of spots to the fore edges.
