Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. French language edition. Original gilt-titled brown cloth in colour illustrated jacket 26x30cm. 324, (1)pp including fold-outs, illustrated throughout with photos, maps, charts in colour and b/w. Book fine, lightly bumped to spine tail; jacket near fine, lightly creased to the top edge. This celebratory and informative work was issued in English, French and Arabic editions to raise regional and international awareness about the origins, organisation, activities and future development of Petromin, Saudi Arabia's first national oil company. Chaired by Oil Minister Ahmed Zaki Yamani with Abduhady Hassan Taher as its Governor, it was founded in 1962, shortly after the creation of OPEC, to develop the oil and mineral industries, explore and operate outside the Aramco concession, and to ultimately take over from Aramco. It formed a key part of a large scale industrial programme initiated by King Faisal, his portrait here captioned as " Batisseur de la Renaissance industrielle moderne". This also included the development of Yanbu and Jubail, and during 1977-82 Petromin would build the East-West Crude Oil Pipeline (Petroline) from Abqaiq to Yanbu amid fears the Iran-Iraq War would close the Strait of Hormuz. The work shows Petromin's infrastructure and operations to be well established, and photos give insights into its diverse activities along with royalty, senior management and staff. Rare.
