Paperback. Condition: new. Sam Savitt (illustrator). Paperback. General Fiction Large Print Edition Lad, a courageous and dignified 80-pound collie, lived in The Place. The Place was thick with woods, abounding with squirrels to chase, and a cool lake in which to plunge a beautiful kingdom and Lad was its undisputed king. Lad s loyalty to his chosen Master and Mistress knew no bounds. The stories in this book are all about Lad. Some will make you laugh out loud, some will make you cry. And when the book comes to its conclusion, you will know one thing for sure that Lad was a dog with a soul . . . Before there was Lassie, there was Lad—a dog whose loyalty and courage set him apart. Since its original publication over 70 years ago, Terhune's classic has touched countless readers. Lad is based upon one of Terhune's many collies. Illustrated. Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Reprint Edition. A nice copy of the first printing of the Grosset & Dunlap reprint, ca. 1925, as the rear panel listing books by Terhune lists "Wolf" as the last title and "Wolf" was written in 1925 (this title originally published by George Doran Company in 1921). Dust jacket flap also mentions that this title can be issued at a reduced price because of the use of the same plates as the original edition and acceptance by the Terhune of a reduced royalty. Appears unread or barely so. Lettering and decorations to spine and front board are bright and unflaked. No marks or highlights in text. In a Very Good + bright dust jacket w/some wear/flecking to spine ends, corners, and edges, two tiny closed tears to rear panel bottom edge, light soiling throughout. No previous owner's names.
