Ballala Sen and other Sena rulers of Bengal in the 11-13 century came from Karnataka. The Mysore Garden is the contribution of the Kannadigas to Calcutta. Idli, dosas, rasam, etc. also are their contribution to the world. The Konkanis produced Vijay Mallya and other industrialists. Swami Ranganathananda, the living authority of Vedanta, is a Malayalee. The Tamilians made Calcutta the cradle of scientific research by producing Sir C.V. Raman, the only Nobel Laureate in Physics from India. The Telugus produced Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, a former President of India. Dr. C.R. Rao, the authority on statistics, is the product of Calcutta. South Indians who have no vested interest in Calcutta are the marginal men of the metropolis, but their contribution in making Calcutta the intellectual capital of India, is unique." (jacket).

"The Mango in Indian Life and Culture is the first ethno-botanical study of this miraculous fruit which is relished all over the world. Ancient Indian sages prescribed planting of the mango for the salvation of the souls, 14 generations past and future, so that it is cultivated extensively for providing ready nutrition, medicine, fuel, shade and pollution control. The mango plays an important role in Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism and Animism of the tribal people of India. Though the mango trick is no longer practised by migicians in India, it cannot be denied that mango groves changed the history of India thrice in B.C. 327 and A.D. 1522 and 1757. Here is an encyclopaedic work on mango.".
