Severe cracking to gutters with exposed netting, some pages partially attached. Moderate tanning and foxing to pages throughout, heavier to text block edges and front and rear of book. Previous owner's inscriptions to front free endpaper. Pencil inscription to page 484. Rough-cut pages. Boards have heavy shelf-wear with bumping to corners. Severe crushing to spine ends causing fraying to cloth at spine ends and rub wear all over. Moderate tanning to spine. Wear marks overall.

Corners are bumped and a heavily frayed and spine ends are crushed, with some small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Green embossed decorative board binding with coloured cartouche stuck on to front cover. There appear to be two pages missing at the front: the front fep (which, in being removed, has also taken off some of the front pastedown), and a page between the frontispiece and the title page. Text block tight and clean - apart from 2 or 3 marginal pencil marks. Boards quite bright still, and not cocked.
