Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. An unusual 12 page pamphlet, depicting in photos and text John F. Kennedy's first (and last) viewing of the firing of a Polaris missile from a submarine, on November 16, 1963. The text opens with a facsimile of JFK's letter to Admiral Galantin, thanking the crew of the USS Andrew Jackson. This pamphlet is the Navy's plea to continue construction of a huge Polaris fleet (of 41 submarines!), using the emphatic endorsement of Kennedy's letter (.'the efficacy of this weapons system as a deterrent is not debatable.') and the mantle of the martyred President. Rare.B/W Photographs.
