Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. John Francis Rider (1900?1985) was an American radio engineer best known as publisher and author of over 125 books for radio and television servicing. Before getting involved into publishing he served at the rank of Lt. Colonel for the US Signal Corps. After military service he became a radio engineer for Alfred H. Grebe a manufacturer of radios. He founded John F. Rider Publisher Inc. in 1931 and was responsible for annual volumes of the Perpetual Troubleshooter's Manual from 1931 to 1954. In 1955 John F. Rider Publications and all rights were acquired by Hayden Books. The emphasis of John F. Rider books were enable readers to make money servicing equipment or to understand design of equipment in order to determine cost effective purchases & applications. This book was no exception. Cathode-Ray Oscilloscopes were invented and in use from the 1920's, but developing uses for them did not take off until radar and television technology were being developed in WWII era. In the 1950 preface to this book, the author found there were over six times the standard uses and manufacturers of this equipment than when his first book on the subject was released in 1935. The 1950 1st edition was joint authored with Seymour D. Uslan. This edition, with an additional copyright of 1955, had chapters written by two more authors, Willard Moody and Henry Chanes. The attempt was to present a complete 'all manufacturer' service manual, users guide and equipment catalog as well as a layman's description of the operating theory behind the devices. viii + 998pp. Hardcover blue tweed cloth boards with gold lettering on spine but no jacket. Fine (As New) condition with no flaws noted. Book opens as if never read. Interior tight, clean and unmarked. Copyrights 1950 & 1955.
