First edition thus of this volume of humorous short stories by the popular Ukrainian Jewish writer Ostap Vyshnia (or Vishnia, real name Pavlo Hubenko, 1889-1956), whose feuilletons and short stories earned him the reputation of the father of modern Ukrainian satire. From 1933 to 1943 he was imprisoned as an "enemy of the people". Wrappers with an appealing illustration by V. A.
