First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. One World / Ballentine Books New York, 2009. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Stated "First Edition", first print with a full number line starting with "1". 9-1/2" tall, 284 numbered pages includes "A Note on Sources" "Notes" and "Acknowledgements", followed by unnumbered pages of "About the Authors" and "About the Type"; plain dark gray boards with black quarter binding, silver lettering on spine; front board is plain; plain ivory pages; fore edge is trimmed. The book is in very good issues with several minor issues: it is square, spotlessly clean, free of edge dings with both upper corners lightly bumped; head and heel of spine both bumped and creased (see photo); rear board has a 1/4" x 1/8" scrape that removed the top layer of paper; hinges are very tight and not damaged in any fashion; bottom edge has a red remainder dot. The interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. Paper is very flexible. No distortion of the book from reading or improper shelving; pages are tight and clean with no marks. Jacket is also in Near Fine condition: it is very clean; no tears, folds or fading; no bumps on edges or lower corners; tiny bumps on both upper corners; creases at both head and heel of spine; the remnants of a very stubborn price tag near the bottom of the spine; publisher's price of "U.S.A. $26.00 / Canada $32.00" listed on the upper corner of the front flap. Condition of book and jacket consistent with being cared for and not read. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No previous owner markings or inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Very legibly signed and dated by the author in black ball point pen on the title page above her printed name, with the date ("2/23") below her signature; done in my presence after the wonderful and uplifting story of how she survived/prospered in the hostile environment of that time, followed by a short q. & a., all done at the Ethical Society of Saint Louis, MO, on February 17, 2023. Signed by Author(s).
