First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First edition. An association copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "For Bob Galvin, our Thoreau book-hunter par excellence, who tracked down this first edition. With best wishes, Walt Harding. Concord, Mass, July 4, 1980 -- the 135th anniversary of Henry's going to Walden." Uncommon signed. Bob Galvin served forten years on the board of the Thoreau Society and for four as its vice president (his license plate apparently read "THORO"). A nice association for this biography of Thoreau by one its most dedicated scholars, and a neat anniversary mentioned in the inscription. A near fine book in a good jacket with substantial loss to top and bottom of spine, but with panels that present well.
