Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing, paperback original. Publisher's statement "First printing July 1950" to the copyright page. Cover art by Syd Dyke. This "Novel about the abortion racket" is the Canadian literary author Garner's second book, published the same year (though later expanded) as his most famous novel CABBAGETOWN, which depicted life in a notorious Canadian slum during the depression. This work published under his pen name, pictures people, relationships, and troubles, and depicts seedy places offering risky illegal abortions with only cash motives. Quite an elusive vintage collectible. Bookshop address and 15 cents stamped to title page, 15c also stamped to upper corner of front end-paper, "Lou" written to inside front cover, minor creases to front cover corners, some rubbing to covers and spine, small nicks to upper spine end, else good to very good in semi-glossy stiff-card wraps with color front cover art by Syd Dyke; publisher's "original never before published" logo and .25 printed price to front cover. A decent, sound, and collectible copy.
