Small octavo (7 1/2 x 5 1/4") bound in original publiosher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and cover. From the library of Edgar Holladay. A C White's Christmas series. (Betts: 33-22) First edition. Contains a biographical sketch of Densmore, by Sim, a 62 page study of his problems by Hume (including 80 examples), 54 further examples of his work (chiefly 3 movers, 4 movers and self mates), an 85 problems by various composers entered in the memorial Tourney. Solutions appear on pages 223-235. Includes an index of composers. From the library of Edgar Holladay with his notes through out and new problem tipped on to page 124 with his solution. Holladay was a well known composer especially in the field of helpmates, International Master in composing and an International Judge. Condition: Previous owner's name on front paste down in pencil (not Holladay's). Re-cased with original spine laid on, soiled, edge wear, Holladay's marginalia through out else about a very good copy issued without jacket.

From the library of Edgard Holliday First edition. A Collection of 300 problems in each of which a main feature is the activity of the white king in the solution. The examples, by various composers, are grouped by 27 thematic classifications, with solutions and elaborations by the editor. Mates are chiefly in two, three and four moves with some longer problems. Includes an index of composers. Holladay was the first American to become a FIDE International Master for Chess Composition; FIDE International Judge for Chess Composition; and "After Alain White's death, Edgar became the world's foremost expert on American chess problems." Moreover, Holladay is the "second overall most important American to the world of chess composition . . . ." (Alain White is the most important person ever in chess composition.) Condition: Holladay's notes in pencil throughout. Some staining to edges, spine ends rubbed, corners bumped else a good to very good copy.
