Original-Radierung von William Hogarth in dem von James Heath, engraver to His Majesty, restaurierten Plattenzustand ohne Angabe von Stecher und Drucker auf rückseitig unbedrucktem großen Karton mit dekorativ abgesetztem breiten Plattenrand, bildliche Darstellung ca. 24 x 18 cm, Plattengröße ca. 27 x 30,5 cm, sauber und sehr gut erhalten, sehr selten - Hogarths Kupferstich der "wichtigsten Bewohner des Mondes", wie sie durch ein Teleskop entdeckt wurden, gilt als eines seiner Meisterwerke und ist eine bissige Kritik am Eigennutz und an der Geldsüchtigkeit von Kirche, Staat und Justiz, die gemeinsam eine Maschine in Gang halten, die laufend neues Geld ausspuckt. Der Staat links mit Krone hat das Gesicht einer Geldmünze, der Würdenträger der Kirche in der Mitte eine jüdische Harfe an Stelle eines Gesichts, der Vertreter des Rechts mit Schwert statt eines Gesichts einen Hammer. Die links stehenden Helfer der weltlichen Gewalt sind bei all dem Treiben der Allianz von Kirche, Staat und Justiz bezeichnenderweise "gesichtslos". - 2100 gr.
