Based on the 1964 musical, with music by Julie Stein, lyrics by Bob Merrill, and book by Isobel Lennart, which was based on Lennart's 1964 biography, detailing the life of Broadway star Fanny Brice, and her tumultuous relationship with playboy Nick Arnstein. Lennart also adapted the work for the screen. The film debut of Barbra Streisand, reprising her Tony nominated Broadway role. Streisand would go on to win an Academy Award for Best Actress, and the film would be nominated for seven others, including Best Supporting Actress for Kay Medford, and Best Picture.
