First edition. Hardcover, octavo, 432pp., monochrome diagrams. Slightly spotted dustwrapper with very minor edge wear; otherwise very good to near fine. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. Besides his four major monographs, Williams produced a vast number of shorter writings, of which this collections presents some of the more remarkable. F E Williams' ethnographic records of the people of the Purari Delta, the Gulf Coast, Lake Kutubu, the Orokaiva and several mountain tribes have become classics. Though working in the tradition of British functionalism, Williams expressed basic criticisms of this school towards the end of his career, and foreshadowed some of the methods of enquiry of the structuralist school that developed after his death.
