Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. xi, [1], 492 pages. Illustrations. Slight creasing to DJ edges. Foreword by Eleanor Holmes-Norton, Delegate of the District of Columbia to the House of Representatives. Signed and inscribed by the author on page iii. Leaford Williams served with distinction in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. He later became a community leader and author. From comments posted on-line: Journey into Diplomacy is a memoir that reads like a tale of an ambitious young man leaving the hills of Mulgrave, Jamaica to go abroad and find his destiny. Mr. Williams was fortunate to escape the trials of growing up without much and eventually landed in diplomat schools in Washington, DC before joining the Foreign Service. Mr. Leaford was the first Black Man to master the Korean language and was highly honored by the Korean Diplomats while serving abroad in the Foreign Service. After many achievements, he was forced out of his Foreign Service career because, he felt, of racism. His courage and ability to maintain his dignity and professionalism is admirable. Mr. Leaford is a fighter for justice. The book is a great read and highly recommended for anyone interested in obtaining a historical view of a Foreign Service experience in the 1960's when racial tension was high. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].
