David Herbert Donald had been a student of Ruth's husband , John Randall at the University Of Illinois .Ruth Randall has written a beautiful inscription to the Donalds on the first free endpaper . The book now comes from Donald's library .Donald , of course , like John Randall , was a celebrated biographer of Abraham lincoln and also won two Pulitzer Prizes for his biographies of Charles Sumner and Thomas Wolfe .This copy of the book is in excellent condition . The dust jacket shows general wear and chips to the edges . Dust jacket is now protected with a mylar cover .
