From the publisher: "As children, Virginia Woolf, her sister Vanessa Bell and brother Thoby collaborated on their own newspaper, recording the day-to-day events of the family home, 22 Hyde Park Gate . [g]ossipy, playful and at times irreverent, they record the comings and goings of a host of figures -- including aristocrats, academics, politicians and artists -- whilst also proffering their own fictional and poetic creations." And it's really funny.

Vanessa Bell. (illustrator). First edition. Octavo. Cloth, gilt stamped spine. First American edition. Pinkish brown cloth, lettered in silver, edges trimmed; white endpapers with brown line drawings by Vanessa Bell printed on each. Frontispiece portrait of Flush, two further full page portraits in text. Gift inscription on border of rear pastedown, else very good. Woolf's brilliant biography of a dog; not just any dog, but the poet Mrs. Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Spaniel, Flush. Flush not only played an active part in human life and inspired poetry, but was himself a dog estimated by all who knew him as a dog of worth and character well deserving celebration. "FLUSH is only by way of a joke. I was so tired after THE WAVES, that I lay in the garden and read the Browning letters, and the figure of their dog made me laugh so I couldn't resist making him a Life. I wanted to play a joke on Lytton [Strachey] -- it was to parody him. But then it grew too long, and I dont think its up to much now. But this is all very egotistical." -- WOOLF, Vol. V. p.161-2.
