Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: near fine. First Edition. Octavo, 224pp., illustrated. Edges foxed, else a very good copy. In a near fine dust jacket, toned along the extemities. This copy SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the elder Zumwalt on the half-title page: "To Bill Yowell, a true friend and good neighbor, with respect. Bud. E. R. Zumwalt, Jr." The dark, but honest memoir of this military father and son. The father, an Admiral in the U. S. Navy, was one of the principal figures involved in the decision to use Agent Orange in Vietnam. His son, a Lieutenant on a patrol boat, was exposed to the defoliant during the war, which he believed was responsible for his cancer diagnosis a decade later. His son--the admiral's grandson--was born with learning disabilities, and the family also believed, convincingly, that Agent Orange was responsible. The book is an honest, difficult reckoning with the harsh truth. Lieutenant Zumwalt died two years after publication.
