Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Uncorrected proof copy. Wrappers. Covers slightly marked. The author's first book, the joint winner, with Clare Nonhebel (Cold Showers), of the first Betty Trask Prize, 1984. "The search for the first winner of Britain's largest literary prize," reported The Times (11 July 1984), "ended last night without a ripped bodice in sight." The only "heart-rending" was among the judges. Those "vociferously" backing Winter Journey, a "sombre and literary tale of a ten-year-old girl's travels in Europe", were Nina Bawden and Margaret Forster. The book was not published until October. Ronald Frame has been dubbed by Alexander McCall Smith "Scotland's finest contemporary writer".
