Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. "Green Beach" was the code name for Pourville, a small seaside town near dieppe where, on 19th August 1942, Canadian and British Troops landed in Operation Jubile, an essential rehearsal for the D-Day landings two years later. Jubilee Force, six thousand strong, had been set 16 special objectives, target 13 was to discover the importance and accuracy of a German radar station on the cliff-top just outside the town. The man in the Canadian uniform was a British Radar expert who had volunteered for this assignment, Jack Maurice Nissenthall, an RAF flight sergeant from Bow, in East London. What happended to him and his bodyguard in Jubilee's fearful nine hours of fighting on the sun-burned beaches is one of the war's strangest episodes. A story of heroism and ironic humour. One man's determination to pay a debt of honour to the country which had given his parents a home. How this debt was paid and at what terrible cost, is told in this most gripping and moving book of the decade. This olive green coloured hardback book with gilt title impressions on the spine, is in reasonably good condition. Normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. Some shelf-life wear and marks on the edging. Dust jacket included, which is in good condition. First published in 1975, First Edition. All 250 pages intact, all text, illustrations and pages are clean, readable and in good order. A fabulous book and definitely worth having in the home library.

(Subject: World War II - Western Europe) Operation Jubilee, August 1942, was essentially a rehearsal for the D-Day landings. There were 16 immediate objectives of the operation, one of which was to discover the importance of a German radar station. Among those landed was Flight-Sergeant J M Nissenthall, a radar expert, equipped with a Canadian Army uniform and escorted by a personal bodyguard whose orders were to kill him rather than allow the Germans to capture him. This is the story of what happened to him and his bodyguard during the fighting on the beaches near to Dieppe.
