Slight wear to spine, covers, corners & dustjacket. Small spot of soiling to top edge. ; Chris Steele-Perkins is a prominent British photographer known for his extensive and diverse documentary work. He was born on July 28, 1947, in Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar) to a British father and a Burmese mother. He spent his early childhood in Myanmar before moving to England at the age of five. Steele-Perkins studied psychology at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, but his interest in photography led him to work as a freelance photographer after graduating in 1970. He became a member of the renowned Magnum Photos agency in 1979, which greatly bolstered his reputation in the photography world. Throughout his career, Steele-Perkins has focused on various social issues and conflicts, producing compelling photographic series that capture the essence of different cultures and societies. Some of his notable projects include documenting the lives of the homeless in London, the legacy of colonialism in Africa, and the impact of conflict in countries such as Lebanon, Cambodia, and Afghanistan. His photographic style often combines a strong sense of human empathy with a keen eye for composition and visual storytelling. Steele-Perkins has published several books showcasing his work, and his photographs have been exhibited worldwide in numerous galleries and museums. His contributions to the field of documentary photography have earned him multiple awards and accolades, solidifying his position as a significant figure in the world of contemporary photography. Through his powerful and evocative images, Steele-Perkins continues to shed light on the complexities of the human condition, sparking conversations and raising awareness about pressing social issues. - Brigitte Lardinois served as the Director of the Photography and the Archive Research Centre (PARC) at the London College of Communication. One of her notable projects includes her involvement in the "Edgar Martins: This Is Not a House" exhibition, which took place at The Wapping Project Bankside in London. This exhibition featured the work of contemporary photographer Edgar Martins, exploring the complex issues of housing and urban development. Lardinois has also been involved in educational initiatives related to photography. Her contributions to the field extend beyond exhibitions to encompass the academic and research aspects of photography. ; Quarto oblong; 256 pages.
