He arrived at St.Ives in 1923, just when Hamada was preparing to return to Japan. After three years apprenticeship with Leach he went to Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, later to Africa and then back to Wenford Bridge pottery in Cornwall. The book includes an essay entitled "The Fatal Impact" by Cardew.

Ribbed dark grey cloth-covered boards with red lettering to spine. Softening to corners and the cover panels are a little mottled. Light water damage evident along bottom edge of several pages mid-book. Age-tanning to pages and edges of the text block. The jacket is not price-clipped, with edge-wear and light chipping & creasing, most notably to the spine ends and ends of the flap folds. Water staining evident along jacket's bottom edge, though noticeable predominantly to the verso side. The jacket is now protected and enhanced by a removable, clear, protective sleeve. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
