Pictorial Wraps. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. LIMITED EDITION. Limited to 1000 unnumbered copies set in Palatino 10pt and printed by Greeves Street Press, Preston, Victoria. First edition, published June 1993. Drawings by Jenni Mitchell. Cover painting by Jenni Mitchell from her series Australian poets' portraits. Poems selected by Patrick McCauley. Some of these poems appeared previously in Overland and Poems From A Peach Melba Hat. Shelton Lea (1946-2005), was a much-respected Melbourne underground poet, a teen runaway who lived on the streets, a bookshop owner (DeHavillands on Wellington Street in Melbourne), & a local publisher (Eaglemont Books). He has been variously described as a "natural poet of the streets", & "the man who walked into a pub, smiled and served up a poem with the lot" (by Barry Dickins). Shelton Lea was born in Fitzroy & adopted at 13 months into the wealthy Darrell Lea (Chocolate) family in Toorak, one of Melbourne's most affluent suburbs. The Lea family were to adopt three children in all, as the lucky companions - almost toys (as one doctor put it) - for their four children, but their status as playmates who would inherit nothing was always emphasised. A poignant biography detailing the turbulant life of Shelton Lea titled "Delinquent Angel" was published by Random House in 2007. Slight handling wear with mild rubbing to cover, light price-sticker ghostings to front & rear covers, otherwise a nice clean tight solid softcover copy. 62pp. Scarce title, as are all Shelton Lea books. RARE.
