Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. [10],242, [4] pages. DJ has slight wear and soiling. Carolyn See (born Caroline Laws; January 13, 1934 - July 13, 2016) was a professor emerita of English at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the author of ten books, including the memoir, Dreaming: Hard Luck and Good Times in America, an advice book on writing, Making a Literary Life, and the novels There Will Never Be Another You, Golden Days, and The Handyman. See was also a book critic for the Washington Post for 27 years. See earned her M.A. from California State University, Los Angeles. See won the Samuel Goldwyn Creative Writing Contest in 1958 for her unpublished novel The Waiting Game. See later finished her doctorate at UCLA and her dissertation was on the Hollywood novel. In the late 1960s See began writing articles for the Los Angeles Times and celebrity profiles for TV Guide. See was approached by Little, Brown editor Harry Sions who encouraged her to write a novel which became The Rest is Done with Mirrors. See's first teaching job was as a professor of English at Loyola Marymount University from 1970 until 1985. Besides writing, See contributed through reviews, and sat on review boards for awards. See was a frequent book reviewer for The Washington Post. "Carolyn See has written a novel alive with wit and love and energy-a book about things falling apart that turns out to be a day at the beach. . . . Pure joy."-Joan Didion. Carolyn See triumphantly returns to fiction with this provocative, vibrantly written novel. Set in a security-obsessed world, "There Will Never Be Another You" captures the paranoia and propaganda of a volatile time in which humanity's divisions run deep and society sits on edge-and one family faces profound crises. It is a moment when the global threat of terror has cultivated rage, apathy, and panic across the country. For Phil, a dermatologist, it is a time of unease and uncertainty. Now Phil must deal with his mother, Edith, who's been grieving over the death of her husband and only recently has thought to reconnect with a family that seems to have other priorities. Phil's energies are already divvied up among his belligerent children, his wayward wife, and his unreliable mistress. Then Phil is recruited for a top-secret team whose task is to act quickly in the event of a biological or chemical attack. The assignment just may provide him with a renewed sense of purpose. Yet circumstances force Phil to make profound decisions that will affect not just himself and his loved ones but the entire country. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].
