Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Leonard Rosoman [Dustwrapper design] (illustrator). 5th or later Edition. A later edition, published in 1978. The book was first published in 1943, with further printings appearing three times in that year, 1950, 1951 and 1965. Dustwrapper designed by Leonard Rosoman. ***Very good in light-brown cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright having been protected by the dustwrapper. Boards clean with just some very light marks to the back board. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. No bumps or tears to the cloth. Internally also very good with no inscriptions. Pages clean with no foxing. The book would be described as near fine, but for a small closed tear at the top edge of the rear free endpaper. Spine tight. ***In a near fine colour-illustrated dustwrapper, with the attractive original design by Leonard Rosoman to the front panel. The dustwrapper has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £4.25 net. The dustwrapper is complete, without any chips or tears - just light browning to the cream areas. Dustwrapper bright. ***205 mm x135 mm. 196 pages. ***'One of Mr. Green's most celebrated novels, "Caught" is set in the uneasy year that opened the war and was ended by the Blitz. Its characters are the men who form the crew of a sub-station of the London Fire Force, and their womenfolk. Henry Green was born in 1905 and spent his youth in his family home in the West Country. After Eton and Oxford he worked with his father in an engineering company, but pursued a parallel career as a novelist. Recently John Updike wrote: "His novels made more of a stylistic impact upon me than those of any other writer living or dead."' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***A later edition of "Caught" by Henry Green, which was originally published during World War Two. Of interest to collectors of the work of Henry Green and the Hogarth Press. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
