His daughter Marie Weeden was determined to finish his work and approached Dr.Ralph Maud (SFU) and Dr. Brent Galloway (linguist) to help her transcribe the many tapes of oral history that Wells had accumulated while interviewing his native friends. Wells had grown up on a farm in the valley of the Chilliwack River and made friends with the native people of the area. While not an ethnographer, his affection for these people and desire help them retain their culture has resulted in this book as well as the revival of the Salish weaving techniques they used.
