Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 2nd Edition. London. Rex Collings. 1976. Originally issued by this publisher in 1972, this is an early reprint; second edition, sixth impression. Hard Cover. Sage green cloth with gilt titles to the spine. Sunning to the spine and minor fading along the top and bottom edge. Faint tone to the front endpaper and flaps. Jacket is unclipped at £3.95. Colour photography to the jacket by Jane Burton. Jacket and book are at least very good plus approaching near fine and this is an attractive printing of this classic story. Set in Hampshire in southern England, the story features a small group of rabbits. Although they live in their natural wild environment, with burrows, they are anthropomorphised, possessing their own culture, language, proverbs, poetry, and mythology. Evoking epic themes, the novel follows the rabbits as they escape the destruction of their warren and seek a place to establish a new home (the hill of Watership Down), encountering perils and temptations along the way. The novel was rejected many times before Rex Collings who was a one man band publisher took it on. An uncommon reprint in attractive condition. The dust jacket will be covered with a new inert archival protective sleeve which is removable. Please contact us if you would like any more information or additional photographs. Postage price quoted outside the UK are for a book up to 1kg using UPS. For books sent within the UK, there will be no extra charge for books up to 2kg and are sent by Royal Mail. First published in 1972 in this second edition, this is a eighth impression of 1977, a tribute to the book's popularity. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly rubbed and bruised, spine very slightly faded. Not price clipped (£3.95), small previous owner's inscription to ffep, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy for its age. 413pp, foldout map to rear. A worldwide bestseller for over forty years, Richard Adams' spellbinding classic 'Watership Down' is one of the best loved novels of all time. Set in the beautiful English countryside of the Berkshire Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage, and survival follows a band of very special rabbits fleeing the destruction of their home by a developer. Led by a stout hearted pair of brothers, they leave the safety of Sandleford Warren in search of a safe haven and a mysterious promised land, skirting danger at every turn.
