Reúne una selección de poemas sobre la contienda y sus consecuencias de veinticuatro poetas, como Ángela Figuera, Carmen Conde, Gloria Fuertes o María Beneyto que permanecieron en España, junto a Rosa Chacel, Concha Méndez, Ernestina de Champourcin o Concha Zardoya entre otras, que marcharon al exilio. Todas rompieron con la concepción paternalista de que escribir sobre la guerra era un asunto masculino, aunque sus nombres y sus versos fueron a menudo silenciados. Sus vidas fueron afectadas por el enfrentamiento fratricida y sus experiencias articuladas por el trauma: perdieron seres queridos, presenciaron fusilamientos y bombardeos, sufrieron la escasez, el fin repentino de la infancia o la adolescencia, o el alejamiento de la patria. Durante la posguerra, los versos de muchas fueron censurados o tardaron tiempo en imprimirse. Por eso, se incluyen poemas publicados muchos años después. Por último, la recuperación reciente de la memoria histórica ha inspirado a alguna poeta a escribir sobre este tema. Los versos de todas ellas forman parte de la memoria colectiva de la nación. . Reyes Vila-Belda es catedrática de Literatura Española Contemporánea, especializada en poesía, en Indiana University (Estados Unidos). Es autora de dos libros: Antonio Machado, poeta de lo nimio (2004) y Gloria Fuertes: poesía contra el silencio. Literatura, censura y mercado editorial (1954-1962) (2017). Asimismo, ha publicado numerosos artículos en revistas especializadas y capítulos en obras colectivas que han aparecido en diferentes países sobre Antonio Machado, Gloria Fuertes, Aurora de Albornoz y otros poetas y escritores. En la actualidad está trabajando en un proyecto sobre las poetas españolas y el impacto del trauma de la guerra civil. Entre otras becas recibió la Fullbright que le permitió estudiar en Estados Unidos. Participó en el prestigioso Seminario de la National Endowment of Humanities (NEH) que impartieron Andrew Debicki y Jill Kuhnheim en 2002. LIBRO.
