Las escenas de sexo, repugnantes, recuerdan a Bukowski e incluso a veces al Marqués de Sade. Se la ha comparado con muchos escritores o rockeros iconoclastas, incluso con asesinos. Pero lo más alucinante es que nunca se la ha comparado con otras mujeres. En el libro de Krafft-Ebing Psychopathia Sexualis, una de las cuatro categorías de la desviación sexual es la paradoxia, es decir, el deseo sexual que se produce en una etapa errónea de la vida, como en la infancia o la vejez. El título del libro de Lunch, que hace referencia a la historia de una niña a la que violaron, convirtiéndola así en una depredadora, es por tanto atrevido y descorazonador. Krafft-Ebing creía que las mujeres eran sexualmente pasivas y carecían de la capacidad de ser sádicas o fetichistas. En ese sentido, cada escena de Paradoxia actúa en contra del reto que plantea su autora, pues muestra una y otra vez los nimios papeles a los que son confinadas las mujeres por el simple hecho de ser mujeres. Lydia Lunch, o su protagonista, no puede follar como un hombre a causa de una desigualdad brutal: no debido a la diferencia de partes corporales, sino por el modo en que las cosas están dispuestas. La protagonista de Lunch no puede follar como un hombre, pero sí escribir como tal. Ella pertenece tanto al grupo de Blanchot, Bataille y Foucault como al de Selby o Genet. Debido a que es obra de una mujer, una escritura de este tipo, de una verdad brutal y sin medias tintas, resulta todo un acto de desafío. No se trata sólo de un registro del panorama psicosexual reinante entre los componentes de la No Wave, sino de un documento que plantea preguntas importantes sobre el género, el sexo y el abuso. Es cierto que Lunch no se molesta en cambiar los nombres de los personajes (probablemente también se mantenga fiel a los detalles), pero no es tanto una autobiografía como un tratado filosófico.
