Avorio e oro sono i due colori dominanti del Paradiso. La tavola di apertura è accesa dalla luce giallo-oro dell'Empireo, che investe anche il volto del Dante, il quale contempla, con lo sguardo verso l'alto, la composizione dei cieli che conducono al Bene ultimo e supremo. La luce è il filo conduttore della terza cantica e la grande sfida, tecnica ed espressiva, che Bonanotte deve affrontare. Tramite l'uso della grafite l'artista esplora una sublime gamma di trasparenze, cogliendo ogni sfumatura di grigio, fino a stemperarlo nel bianco del foglio di supporto. L'uso dell'oro accende, con discrezione, ogni tavola e sottolinea la natura spirituale e soprannaturale di quella luce. Lo spazio risponde a un ordine che non attiene più a ciò che è terreno, conosciuto o conoscibile. La perfezione del cerchio è la forma scelta dall'artista per scandire il passaggio tra i cieli. Cornice simbolica e ideale che custodisce e protegge il Poeta, accompagnato dall'amata Beatrice, nella sua ascesa verso le sfere più alte dell'Empireo, il cui accesso non è mai stato consentito ad alcuno nel corso di una vita terrena. Nel viaggio all'interno di questo universo poetico e spirituale, Bonanotte affronta ogni singola illustrazione con assoluta autonomia e originalità, fedele al suo linguaggio, consapevole dei suoi strumenti tecnici, sicuro nelle sue capacità espressive e compositive.
