The question what is the moral significance of the very doing of science brings many several closely related enquiries. The value embedded in any scientific method do not always implicitly embrace the significance of human relations to the natural world. Convergence between ecology ethics economics and other allied sciences (encom passing issues of environment) is also recognized. Environment has become the central point of global concern the quality of environment is affected by production and consumption activities of people. Moreover society's welfare with its economic activities is also governed by environment. In this context Environmental Management covering the aspects of Environmental Awareness and Education concentrates. This book against the common feature of global atmosphere due to global warming resource degradation ozone depletion GHG and diminishing biological diversity covers the significance of environmental awareness and education at every walks of life. This is obviously against the background of population pressure overall growth in farming front endangering the essential aspects of sustainable development. Environmental sustainability issues on a holistic way has also been included through discussion on traditional knowledge system. Besides quantitative dimensions like Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) ecosystem management and environment management have also been dealt with. 284 pp.

Considering the Agro biodiversity as one of the richest national resource in country's economy strategic attempt for conforming unforeseen vagaries of climate and building block for developing varieties of plants and animal species with multi utility dimensions it is much needed option for developing a suitable knowledge base. It is estimated that about three quarters of genetics diversity of agricultural crops was lost in the preceding century. Out of 6300 animal species 1350 are considered endangered and in extinction. Forest dwellers fishermen herders and farmers and maintaining the diversity by selecting plants and animals to meet the current environmental conditions and food requirements. Under these premises National Biodiversity Authority Chennai organized a National Conference on Agro Biodiversity in Chennai from February 12 17 2006. Researchers academicians policy planners and administrators presented their view point on current status and future prospects of taking advantage of this resource. This vicarious knowledge resource will have high exploitation value for protecting and conserving the dwindling wealth the country can boost of. The proceedings of this conference are brought out in three distinct volumes. Volume II deals with soil resources and microbial diversity which include soil biodiversity and sustainability parameters rehabilitation options of salt lands land resource planning nutrient management conservation technologies management of biodiversity of microbes and weeds biodiversity of Rhizobium and microflora and other related topics. 278 pp.

All agricultural disciplines have to cope with the subsequent and emerging thoughts not to speak of extension education alone. The scope of extension education has gradually broadened enough without a shift in the basic focus to make it as comprehensive as possible. This discipline has undergone gradual metamorphosis through the last few decades. As a result of this process the discipline has been facing serious challenges particularly against the backdrop of globalization. The coverage of this book represents the fusion of traditional contents of the discipline with a number of emerging thoughts relevant to the discipline. As such this volume should serve the purpose beyond an ordinary text book on extension education. It should be treated as a reference book for several purposes. This book is meant for UG and PG students of agriculture veterinary and animal sciences fishery home science dairy science. Besides it should also serve as a reference manual for training and management centres like KVKs ATCs and various government departments cooperatives banks and NGOs and even for different management institutes. 408 pp.

Earth functions as a complex system and existing infrastructure and methodologies are inadequate for the community to address many problems of this system. It requires an integrated and innovative approach to analyse model and develop extensive and diverse data sets for the solution of these problems. Geoinformatics which is the synergy of multiple disciplines namely earth sciences GIS remote sensing GPS photogrammetry and cartography is developing fast in the areas where the data are identified by their locations. Currently there is a chaotic distribution of available data sets lack of documentation about them and the methodologies lack of easy to access tolls computer modeling etc. which pose the major obstacles for the earth scientist in trying to work out solutions. The authors have tried to remove these hurdles by bringing together relevant informations and techniques as well as the recent advances in these fields. This book presents a comprehensive account of various topics related to the applications of geoinformatics which are highly diversified and include space and environmental monitoring watershed management water resources and management productivity enhancement in agro ecosystems resource information systems precision farming monitoring of glaciers and lakes geospatial techniques and livelihood improvement using GIS. 340 pp.

Thrown across the farthest reaches of India, obscured from the greater world by ageless forests and formidable mountain ranges, the state of Assam has Asia s great natural and anthropological sanctuaries. Favourable climate, topographic and edaphic factors support huge variety of flora and fauna from here. However even after this immense range of diversity, very few studies have been done to study the invertebrate faunal diversity from the state of Assam in last 50 years, which ensures the possibility of getting an updated and diverse account of invertebrate fauna from this hill state. This sparked the concept of invertebrate faunal studies from the state of Assam. For the first time, a consolidated study has been done on the current taxonomic status of different invertebrate faunal groups from the state of Assam. The Survey has been done along different protected areas from the state of Assam including different National Park and Wildlife Sanctuaries. Present research work includes invertebrate faunal resources studies across different district of Assam throughout the entire state. The book dealt with 6595 faunal species covering Protozoa to Mollusca from the state in 27 chapters. The detailed checklist of 80 species of Protozoa, 6595 species of invertebrates along with 113 species of endemic fauna of Assam have been illustrated in the document. Moreover, 16 species have been recorded for the first time from India. Further, 134 species have been recorded for the first time from the state of Assam. This book will serve, as a baseline data to understand the invertebrate faunal diversity of the state as well as it will be a comprehensive documentation for revised conservation strategies and sustainable use of bio resources.
