Book First Edition
Paperback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. This 1979 first edition copy is sold in FINE condition between FINE illustrated card covers. Jane Austen was proud of being what she termed 'a Hampshire born Austen' but her world was not confined to Steventon the village near Basingstoke where she was born, or Chawton, near Alton, where she spent the later years of her life. She visited Kent frequently, lived in Bath and Southampson and knew London well. She stayed with relatives at Great Bookham near Box Hill in Surrey, and spent summers by the sea in several rsorts including her favourite, Lyme Regis. Her letters, extracts of which are quoted in this book, show that she was a keen walker - visiting friends, shopping and also for pleasure. These thirteen walks are mostly circular and range from two to nine miles in length. Maps are included to help you follow Jane Austen and her characters through town and countryside.
