Card covers with flaps, quarto, 104pp, b&w and colour photos. Light wear to card edges, spine a little sunned, previous owner's name top right of front fep; a very good copy. This book is an attempt to explain how the USS Arizona Memorial and Visitor Center came to be. The narrative is divided chronologically into three parts The first period, 1941-1954, saw the germination of the idea to memorialize the US men who fought and died in the Pacific, the second period, 1955-1962, was one of concentrated effort to build the USS Arizona Memorial. During the third period, 1963-1980, the focus was on the increasing need for a shoreside visitor center to accommodate and enhance the experience of the growing number of visitors to the Memorial.
