Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Evocative color photos by Ernest Braun / B&W photos by Philip Hyde (illustrator). No ISBN found in our first offering, "Grand Canyon of the Living Colorado." The color phtographs -- often closeups -- are more interesting than the usual (and predictable) grandiose landscapes. Jacket "very-good-minus" with some rumpling to bottom edge and small tears to head & heel of spine. Not price clipped; original $8.50 price showing. 144 pp. including river mileage chart. OUR SECOND OFFERING, "The Wilderness World," is a very good octavo first edition, also 1971, in a "very-good-minus" dust jacket with rub and some chipping to head and heel of spine, illustrated with B&W photos which the publishers describe as "magnificent" (though if they're so magnificent, one wonders why they're all reproduced in black-and-white.) The authors "discuss man's disastrous effect on this environment" and "suggest ways to overcome the modern pressures that threaten it." 241 pp. including index and, again, no ISBN found. This pair of books now reduced from $20.

Mass-market paperback. First edition. Mass-market paperback. 222 p. 18 cm. Vivid cover art: triumphant woman w/ thermometer and foot on defeated dragon. Comic autobiographical author Betty MacDonald (The Egg and I) was diagnosed with tuberculosis while needing to support 2 small children. Convinced she was fatally ill, she entered a sanitarium, mid-20th century. Gifted with the balance of humor, MacDonald wrote near the start of her account, "By background and disposition some people are better suited to being hit by a bus than others". By Chapter Four, we are informed, "All New Patients Must First be Boiled", and next, "Oh, Salvadora! Don't Spit on the Flora! " Before entered the treatment center, she said goodbye to everything and every one. She would emerge, healthy. Laughter was likely one of the antidotes to TB before vaccinations became lifesaving. Partially serialized before Lippincott publication in Good Housekeeping magazine. Good. Age-Toning. short lower spine tear, 1/4 inch. Top page block spotting. Presumed 1st. No print line. Reprint PB from Lippincott.
