Quarto, paperback,442 pp.,tables, maps. WAS $50. This book analyses the IUCN status of all the species and subspecies of Australia's birds, including those of the offshore territories. For each bird the size and trend in their population and distribution has been analysed using the latest iteration of IUCN Red List Criteria to determine their risk of extinction. The book also provides an account of all those species and subspecies that are or are likely to be extinct. In this completely revised edition each account covers not only the 2010 status but provides a retrospective assessment of the status in 1990 and 2000 based on current knowledge, taxonomic revisions and changes to the IUCN criteria, and then reasons why the status of some taxa has changed over the last two decades. The book contains some surprises - some alarming, some encouraging. This is not a book of lost causes. It is a call for action to keep the extraordinary biodiversity we have inherited.

Octavo, paperback,107 pp.,maps. Among the 42% of mammals classified as rodents, only 10% of them are significant agricultural pests. However, those 10% have 3 major impacts â " they cause major pre-harvest losses to most stages of growing crops, cause post-harvest losses to stored grain and vegetables and they are carriers of at least 20 diseases which are severely debilitating to human health. If these impacts could be reduced by only a small percentage, then there would be substantial increased food security and better livelihoods for smallholder farmers in many developing countries. This special issue comprises a selection of the presentations delivered at the 4th International Conference on Rodent Biology and Management held in Bloemfontein in April 2010. It represents important research advances in our knowledge and understanding of rodents for their conservation and management and will be of ongoing interest to wildlife biologists, crop protection and conservation specialists, students and policy makers.

Quarto, laminated boards,363 pp.,colour photographs black and white illustrations, line drawings, maps. Squat lobsters have been intensively studied over the past few decades, making them one of the best known deepwater crustacean groups. Of the superfamilies Chirostyloidea and Galatheoidea, they are highly visible crustaceans on seamounts, continental margins, shelf environments, hydrothermal vents and coral reefs. This new book provides keys for identification and reviews the current state of knowledge of the taxonomy, evolution, life history, distribution, ecology and fisheries of squat lobsters.

Octavo,301 pp.,photographs, maps, fine copy in dustwrapper. This volume describes 17 families of monocots in 76 genera and 256 species. Most of the families are aquatic, and include the sea-grasses, pond weeds, and some major agricultural weed species. Four families are entirely or mostly terrestrial. The aquatic families are all small in number of species, and two, Juncaginaceae and Posidoniaceae, have their greatest diversity in Australia. Lemnaceae contains the world's smallest and most reduced flowering plants, some as tiny as 1 mm long.
