Juli 2001 in Orinda, Kalifornien) war ein US-amerikanischer Science-Fiction-Autor im so genannten ?goldenen Zeitalter? der Science Fiction. Einige seiner Kurzgeschichten wurden zuerst unter den Pseudonymen A. A. Craig, Michael Karageorge und Winston P. Sanders veröffentlicht. Poul Anderson wurde am 25. November 1926 in Bristol, Pennsylvania, als Sohn skandinavischer Immigranten geboren. Seine Kindheit verbrachte er in Minnesota, Texas und für eine kurze Zeit auch in Dänemark. Anderson studierte Physik und begann während dieser Zeit mit dem Schreiben von Science-Fiction-Erzählungen. Seine erste Science-Fiction-Erzählung Tomorrow's Children, die er gemeinsam mit F. N. Waldrop schrieb, erschien im März 1947 in Astounding. 1952 veröffentlichte er mit Vault of the ages seinen ersten Roman. Anderson war einer der ersten Schriftsteller, die sowohl Fantasy-, als auch Science-Fiction-Romane veröffentlichten und dennoch eine klare Trennung der Genres aufrechterhielten.
