Hardcover. Condition: Good +. No Jacket. First Edition. Straight, solid, sharp former library with cool UK school stamps on fep and title page but no call tag or numbers on backstrip. A few small indentations, one light scratch on the rear cover and barely there sticker residue at the foot of the frt gutter. A bit of color loss on one still sharp tip, others and spine ends are lightly bumped only. Inner hinges are fine, 388 page block is snug, the pages are clean and not rumpled. Super nice exlib that was well cared for. Stated First Charnwood (Large Print) Library Series edition, complete and unabridged. Illustrated with 4 glossy pages (8 sides) of Munning's art in color. There is a bit of extra binders glue on the last page of text before the first illustration page causing a couple letters to be rubbed yet still legible. A very hard to find large type edition. This is the first biography of Sir Alfred Munnings since 1962. "The greatest 'horse' painter since George Stubbs, Munnings led a contradictory, rumbustious life. When a devastating accident almost ended his dream of a painting career, only his courage allowed him to overcome it. There were two difficult marriages and bizarre escapades among the painters, poets and writers of his day. It offers a judicious, "warts & all" portrait of a gifted artist who became President of the Royal Academy and there delivered a controversial speech denouncing modern art that belied his own very uncontroversial art and privately delighted his friend Winston Churchill.
