Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First edition, with dust wrapper. Black boards with white lettering on the spine. Board edges are rubbed and thumbed, therefore bearing a little discolouration. Page edges bear heavy discolouration, more so at the head edge. As a result most pages are wear a halo. Binding is neat and tidy. Head and tail of spine bumped. Free endpapers, pastedowns, title pages and the occasional page throughout bear some discolouration, and light foxing. Else book is in good condition. Dustwrapper bears some small creases, rubbing and scuff marks. Spine lightly sunned. Head and tail of spine well rubbed and creased, some parts of edges are too. Covers bear the odd stain and patch of rubbing, else it is also in good condition. *We always describe the faults of our books meticulously but they usually present better than they sound.

Generally shelfworn with a couple of small repaired tears, some light soiling and foxing and a scratchmark across the word asymmetric on the front cover of the jacket. Not price-clipped. 94pp. Several colour and b/w illustrations. This book is the first English translation (translated by Ruari Maclean) of Jan Tschichold's book first published in Switzerland in 1935. Tschichold discusses in detail the application of asymmetric design to different printing methods such as gravure, offset and letterpress. In addition, there are also detailed chapters on typographic refinements concerning type setting, grouping, line endings, tables, colours and paper. Each chapter is also illustrated with practical examples printed in several colours.
