Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This volume contains 24 songs from the Psalms, paraphrased and arranged by John Bell. All branches of the Church use the Psalms in most worship services. The tunes are mostly original compositions, but some are new arrangements of traditional music. Each psalm has accompanying notes which provide guidance on the music and suitable ways to use the piece in worship. All verses are interlined and repeated after the music, to help sight-readers, and the words used are faithful to scripture. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. A collection of poetry having its origins in the Iona Community's magazine, Coracle. Contributors include: Ruth Burgess, Ron Ferguson, Yvonne Morland, Kathy Galloway, Jan Sutch Pickard, Ruth Harvey, Robert Davidson, David Osborne and others. Kathy Galloway writes in the Introduction: 'The themes which emerge in these particular poems are familiar ones. From most of the writers there is a strong sense of geography, whether that be well-loved or well-remarked places, or the equally interesting interior spaces that we seek out markers for. Not surprisingly, in a book published by the Iona Community, several poems are about Iona, and others are about Camas the Iona Community's adventure centre located in a remote fishing station on the island of Mull. There are poems about people, including two written about George MacLeod the founder of the Iona Community. Many of the poems reflect the struggle to find a language that expresses a contemporary Christianity, a gospel and faith incarnated in everyday life, engaged, as the Iona Community is, with a desire for and commitment to justice, peace and the integrity of creation.' Poetry can speak to the intellect, the heart or the spirit. This is a rare anthology in that it speaks to all three. Kay Carmichael. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. What we sing shapes what we believe - this is an incontrovertible truth as regards the song of the Church. It has led many Westerners to believe that Jesus was a silent baby (Away In A Manger) and a docile child (Once In Royal David's City). It has suggested that militarism is an apt metaphor for discipleship (Onward Christian Soldiers) and this misconception is closely allied to decay (Abide With Me). It has also led to the assumption that, as regards religion, 'the West is the best' (O'er Those Gloomy Hills of Darkness, etc). This is not to discount the value of these and other favourite texts. It is, rather, to suggest that the songs we sing reflect the theology of our times, and theology is always in process because God is always on the move. The songs in this collection are not the antidote but rather a supplement both to traditional hymnody and to the narrow spectrum of biblical and emotional content in much praise and worship material. They are songs intended, as the title (which comes from the words of Jesus) suggests, to liberate us from limited horizons. Hence there are: songs which shun dated, churchy language and instead embrace contemporary speech; songs which prove that the southern hemisphere has more to offer than Kumbaya; songs which take the world seriously, because God takes it seriously; songs which allow worship to be more than predictable praise; songs which challenge the dominance of a performance mentality because they are meant for all to sing. Because we have never set out to provide peerless performances of flawless music, we hope that this album will not just be something to listen to, but may encourage all of God's people to sing. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. From earthworms to CD-ROMs, from starfish to blizzards, from electrons to garden forks, from doubt to a shout of laughter In the tradition of liturgical chants such as the Advent Antiphons, Richard Skinner has created invocations inspired by creatures, conditions and objects in the world around us which reflect and are a metaphor for aspects of God or the Divine. Although the author comes from a Christian background and is most at home with the iconography and language of Christianity, these invocations, which incorporate symbolism from creation, science, technology and human psychology, and point to the God in all things, will resonate with individuals and groups of any or no particular religious or spiritual allegiance. Richard Skinner is a writer, performer, comedian and counsellor. His previous publications include Echoes of Eckhart, published by Arthur James in association with Jim Cotters Cairns Publications and The Logic of Whistling (Cairns, 2002). A cradle Baptist, he is now heavily involved in the life of a city-centre Anglican church, where considerable lay participation occurs. He is deeply influenced by the medieval mystics, particularly Meister Eckhart and Julian of Norwich. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
