January 11 1832. Joaquin Garza to the Alcalde Primero de la ciudad de Linares. The State Congress in an order from March 16 of last year affirms its intention to help this border region with arms given to other districts and now that the Punta de Lampazos is about to be attacked by the Apaches and is without the arms necessary for its defense, it is necessary to request that, from the rifles distributed to your district by the government in 1829, you provide ten to help the mentioned village from the frequent indian (barbaros) attacks to which it is exposed, as the most northern point of the northern border." The Pames indians were among the tribes of the fierce Chichimecs that fought the Spaniards and then the Mexican well into the 19th century: their depredations at this time were joined to those of the Apaches.
