For instance: "We have received information of the most outrageous assault and robbery. It would defeat the ends of justice, at the present time, to enter into particulars." Also a long editorial by Bennett in which he marvels that he is still in business.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Folded to 10 x 7" and opens up to 21 x 14" (fully opened 42 x 28"), (545)-552. Soiled, torn, creased, pencil name. Contents include a lot on Indian "trouble" with the Winnebagoes, Tonkewas, Ottoes, Seminoles ("murdered 95 people in 5 months") but most was the "swarming" of Indians on the Western Frontier; notes from the coroner's office on the inquest of Michael Sands, aged 95 "a negro.[who] had been in the revolutionary war and lost both his feet during a bitterly cold march, he usually got around on a "truck", he died as a result of being run over by a horse and cart and another inquest, this time for "Betsey Stewart, a negress, aged 80 years" apparently knocked down by a Harlem Railroad car and died from her injuries; plus of couple of mentions of robberies by "Negro" or "Black Men", one was described as "a specimen of the negro exquisite" and the other went for a stay in the "Egyptian Tombs". And a man was on trial for turning a ship into a slaver. Lots on the presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison and Martin Van Buren; the Croton Water Works. SCARCE.
