Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Octavo, 176 pp., color pictorial softcovers. Judith Klausner's enhanced memoir, "My Cup Runneth Over and Staineth the Carpet," is an amusing collection of vignettes wound together like the braids on a Challah. Judith married an acclaimed Rabbi, Abraham J. Klausner; it was the second marriage for both. When Judith arrived at his hundred-year-old home in Yonkers, NY, she came as a package deal: it consisted of two children, two weathered station wagons, beloved paintings and clothing (little of which proved suitable for a Rebbetzin or her children). Judith had no knowledge of her position in life, or that she even had a position. She knew nothing of what the large congregation's expectations would be. The congregants were used to an outspoken, silver-tongued, Reform Rabbi they thought had a direct connection to the Lord. That thought was short-lived. Judith Klausner's enhanced memiors are filled with charm, sly humor, compassion and poignant memories, some hysterical, others bittersweet. In her new life, charm, grief and a great deal of love and happiness play out their roles as she tries effectively to fulfill her role as the mother of four children and an active Rebbetzin. While reading this celebration of everyday life, we are reminded that we are like large Matzo balls -- some sink to the bottom while others rise to the top and float! You will LOVE Judith's story -- you'll laugh, cry, and laugh some more!.

During the early decades of the 20th century, through World War II and until Korea's final independence in 1945, Chun ChangShin fought for human rights and especially rights for women and children--which had been denied them for centuries. As a 17-year-old girl, she endured a torturous nine-month imprisonment for merely planning to wave a Korean flag during a freedom demonstration. Once freed from jail, she married a minister (also imprisoned by the Japanese) and raised a family under the harshest conditions imaginable while continuing her fight for freedom. She became an official in the new Korean Women's Police Force, aided war widows and orphans, helped to found the Susanna Society by which destitute widows produced goods for sale and marketed them for profit, and established a self-supporting home for war orphans. Depite her many trials and tribulations, this remarkable woman raised six successful children, and lived to be cited by the president of Korea for her patriotism. Chun ChangShin and her husband are buried with honors in the Korean National Cemetery.

Soft cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Brand-New Title! In EMPIRE OF SAND, Donald Chaput has woven a spellbinding tale of precious-metals mining and life in early-day Arizona and the Southwest, and the kind of determined and hardy pioneers who came to live and work in such an inhospitable land over the past 150 years. Some of them came and stayed; others made their mark then drifted away. While the geography of this book centers on western Arizona, other locales such as Yuma, Blythe, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Baja California, Mexico play supporting roles in the historical drama that played out here. Also featured are Ehrenberg, Quartzsite, Parker and Wickenburg, KOFA, Williams Fork, Harqua Hala and the Whipple Mountains; plus such unforgettable characters as mining speculators Wyatt Earp, Carmelita Campbell and Nellie Cashman; store-keeps the Goldwater brothers; train robber (and former Arizona Ranger) Billy Stiles; real estate developer (and con-man extraordinaire) Dick Wick Hall; entrepreneurs (and Colorado River ferry operators) Nellie and Joe Bush; Iroquois Indian (and namesake of the area's leading town) General Ely Parker; Turkish teamster, miner (and U.S. Army camel driver) Hi Jolly -- and a diverse and fascinating cast of others from far and wide. Donald Chaput is Curator Emeritus of the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, and a life-long student of Western frontier and mining history. He has authored numerous books on these subjects. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. BRAND NEW! Octavo, 224 pages, illustrated, color pictorial dustjacket, appendices, notes, biblio., index. Much has been written about Wyatt Earp's time in Tombstone, Arizona Territory, and his famously bloody Shootout at the O.K. Corral against the Clantons and the McLaurys. But precious little has found its way into print about Wyatt Earp's subsequent days in San Diego, California, where he and several Tombstone allies pursued business interests--gambling, prize fights, horse racing and real estate speculation among them--often through pay-offs and intimidation, and where Wyatt Earp was known as a "Capitalist." In then-boomtown San Diego, Wyatt and Josie Earp lived the quiet but profitable "Good Life" for four years between 1886-1890. This is their story--told in detail for the first time by historian Garner Palenske, and illustrated with many heretofore unpublished photographs and maps. Brand New, this is a must-have book for all Earpomaniacs, Western historians, researchers and enthusiasts! The book is NEW, it its matching NEW color pictorial dustjacket.
