Paperback. Condition: new. Smith, Lane (illustrator). Paperback. From the bestselling author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG! Roald Dahl was a champion of the underdog and all things little--in this case, an orphaned boy oppressed by two nasty, self-centered aunts. How James escapes his miserable life with the horrible aunts and becomes a hero is a Dahlicious fantasy of the highest order. You will never forget resourceful little James and his new family of magically overgrown insects--a ladybug, a spider, a grasshopper, a glowworm, a silkworm, and the chronic complainer, a centipede with a hundred gorgeous shoes. Their adventures aboard a luscious peach as large as a house take them across the Atlantic Ocean, through waters infested with peach-eating sharks and skies inhabited by malevolent Cloudmen, to a ticker-tape parade in New York City. This happily ever after contemporary fairy tale is a twentieth-century classic that every child deserves to know. And Lane Smith's endearingly funny illustrations are a perfect match for the text. "All the gruesome imagery of old-fashioned fairy tales and a good measure of their breathtaking delight." --Kirkus Reviews "A stunning book, to be cherished for its story, a superb fantasy." --The Chicago Tribune "The most original fantasy that has been published in a long time.[it] may well become a classic." --San Francisco Chronicle When magic touches an old peachtree, strange things start happening. A giant peach grows as large as a house, and when James crawls inside, the adventure begins. Lane Smith has created wonderful new illustrations based on the characters in the new full-length movie from Disney. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Two ebullient young men search for Truth the Zen way: from marathon wine-drinking bouts, poetry jam sessions, and "yabyum" in San Francisco's Bohemia to solitude in the high Sierras and a vigil atop Desolation Peak in Washington State. Published just a year after "On the Road" put the Beat Generation on the map, "The Dharma Bums" is sparked by Kerouac's expansiveness, humor, and a contagious zest for life. During the 1950s the search for Buddhist truths takes two young Bohemians through a series of bizarre experiences in California. Seller: Good Reading Secondhand Books, Benalla, VIC, Australia
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Shimin, Symeon (illustrator). [45 pages], first edition. The jacket is chipped along the edges, and the back creased along the head. There is a presentation sticker to the Primary School on the front end paper; neat accession numbers on the title page and again on the back flap, all very neat and unobtrusive, and a library pocket on the back end paper, which also suffers from water staining along its edge. The last few pages suffer from light damp waving. The half title page has been neatly overwritten with a blue biro and one page has a faded library stamp at its head. The faults are not seriously horrific. The pages are clean and the pictures and print sharp. Dance in the Desert "Describes an encounter in the desert when the animals came to a caravan campfire and danced with a child because fear was absent.".
