"MANHATTAN IS AN ISLAND SURROUNDING THE TAFT" text on the bottom of the image boldly proclaims, and the accompanying map attempts to back it up. The hotel is illustrated at a height on par with the Empire State Building, and numerous landmarks, attractions, and transportation options are noted in the immediate vicinity. An index of piers in the upper right corner hints that the establishment was a popular destination for travelers both foreign and domestic. Numerous photographs surrounding the map provide a visual overview of New York's most iconic attractions. The verso includes a number of photographs featuring the Taft Hotel's sumptuous lobby, room interiors, coffee shop and grill. A reservation ticket is also affixed, advertising nightly room rates ranging from $2.00 (single room with running water and shared bath) to $11.00 (the largest suite, accommodating three persons)." Sheet Height (in) See Description Condition A "Light creasing along originally issued fold lines, otherwise in near fine condition. Six panel brochure unfolds to approximately 16.5" x 11.5". The map covers half of the verso.".
"MANHATTAN IS AN ISLAND SURROUNDING THE HOTEL TAFT, claims the bottom of this promotional pamphlet issued in the mid-1930s. The centerfold pictorial map attempts to back up the spurious geographic claim by emphasizing the surrounding attractions like Central Park, the Empire State Building, and Madison Square Garden. Convenient transportation routes are highlighted in red while a table in the upper left corner provides travel times via subway. Decorative elements, such as a compass rose and strapwork cartouche, provide a delightful appeal to "Times Square's Largest Hotel." The Hotel Taft originally opened in 1926 as the Hotel Manger, but was renamed after being sold to Bing & Bing in 1931. Text on the verso applauds the amenities, convenient location, and excellent service. A reservation tag, still affixed, lists room rates at between $2.00 (single room, bath adjacent) to $10.00 (three person suite) per night." Sheet Height (in) 8.9 Condition A Lightly creased along fold lines, but otherwise in near fine condition.
