Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Near fine condition navy blue hard cover with silver lettering. Good condition dust jacket wrapped in mylar. Minor rubbing on top and bottom of the boards. Dust jacket has creasing and rubbing on all edges and along the sides of the spine. Small tear on the bottom of the dust jacket on the spine. Very clean interior with a tight binding. A History of Horace Albright, one of the fathers of the National Park Service. He started his work with the parks three years before the National Park Service was officially created by congress and he stayed for 15 years to make sure it flourished. He helped greatly in running the service while Steve Mathers, the first superintendent, was ill and indisposed making him the de facto head of the parks for a couple years. This book is a great telling by the man himself on how the parks came to be what they are today.

Historian Dale Morgan started urging Brooks to write this work in the mid-forties. Memoir by the renowned and highly respected Western historian. Descended from Southern Utah pioneers who were sent to colonize Utah's Dixie, Juanita Brooks grew up among the red rock country of Southern Utah. Brooks is best known for her groundbreaking histories of the Mountain Meadows Massacre and John D. Lee.
